Module 1 - The Benefits to Using Fiber

In this module we will discuss the benefits that fiber brings over twisted pair infrastructure.  As the physical layer in many different systems and applications, fiber brings significant advantages over twisted pair and vastly improves the long term integrity and reliability of the system it interconnects.  In addition, we will discuss the reasons why fiber is now critical for the distribution and extension of current audio and video content.

Module 2 - Types of Fiber and their Basic Elements

Module two introduces the learner to the elements that go into making an optical fiber and discusses the differences between single-mode fiber and multimode fiber.  An introduction to fundamentals such as core sizes and the benefits or limitations to each, will leave the learner with a clear understanding of the difference and when to use which.

Module 3 - Bandwidth and Distance

This module discusses the bandwidth limitations for both single-mode and multimode fiber, as well as the distances over which they can reliably carry data.  We also talk about the wavelengths of light used by the various types of fiber and why it’s relevant to the application in hand

Module 4 - SSF Fiber vs. Traditional Fiber

In 2011, Cleerline’s leadership team realized that copper solutions were starting to hit the ceiling of usable bandwidth for high definition video transmission, and the required bandwidth for a home network would only increase in the coming years. Fiber was the future of connectivity, so they looked to provide an easier and safer solution than was available.  The goal was to create a fiber solution that could be pulled and handled like category cable and be as easy (if not easier) to terminate compared to Cat5 or Cat6 RJ45 connections. The result is Cleerline SSF™ fiber.

In this module you will learn how SSF™ fiber is Stronger, Safer and Faster to terminate than traditional fiber.

Module 5 - Cable Construction Types and Uses

One of the first questions people ask when starting to consider the implementation of fiber into their systems, is, “What cable construction should be used?”.  In this module, we discuss the numerous varieties of optical fiber construction and when each should be used.  Ranging from the most simple solution, to products that provide the ideal cable for complex systems, we will introduce you to the various solutions and when best to use each.

Module 6 - Connector Types

This module outlines the most commonly used fiber connectors and how to determine when to use which. Additionally, we discuss the connectors typically used by service providers for FTTP (fiber to the premise) and FTTH (fiber to the home) applications, as well as an example system in which we see one of the connectors most frequently used.
